If you havent already guessed, Im talking about blues transfer activity this close season. And before anyone accuses me of knocking the board, dont bother. Im not. I am well chuffed with what theyve done for us up to the present, im just a little concerned about what theyve said, and whats been done.... I know there is still about 1 month left until the window closes but I cant help but feel a little dissappointed with our current lack of progress with regards to the promised "quality" signings. Surely, any club in their right minds would want to recruit asap so the squad can settle in time for the big kick off. I reckon that blues have missed out on all their top targets (if indeed, they had any) and any buys we get in the next month or so will be panick buys. All my dissappointment has stemmed mainly because of sully's comments about not being outbid on the clubs targets. If nothing was said by sully, I would be expecting less and I dont reckon im alone here. Basically, when someone worth as much as Sully says he wont be outbid you would normally believe it. At the moment we have signed Forssell and Nafti - hardly any surprises there (for me anyway) Although im no mathemitician, I reckon blues have got around 6 or 7 mill of club money knocking around the coffers at the moment waiting to be spent but apparently appiah was unnafordable?? Surely thats not true. The club need to set us straight. Hopefully, im worrying about nothing and we will make some "proper" signings before 31'st Aug but if we dont im gonna feel a little misled. |

I share your concerns mate. I think as you say some of the problem comes from the fact that the board talked up our transfer activity and perhaps built up our expectations a bit too much. Maybe we have become spoilt, there are many prem teams who would be over the moon if their only summer signings were Forssell & Pennant. Personally i think at the moment i just feel frustrated because we are so close to having an awsome squad, it feels like we are on the verge of something special but we are still a couple of top signings short. There are obviously weak areas in the squad which could cost us dearly if injuries conspire against us again. Like you say there is a month to go and who knows what will happen, we definately need a couple more players though. |

In all honesty, the transfer merry-go-round hasn't been buzzing has it. Noone is really doing anything just yet. I think they're all waiting till August when the season't started hoping to grab a few bargains. If that is the case, you can't blame the board and Bruce for waiting. We've already signed Forssell, Pennant and Kuqi but they don't feel like real signings because they were so long ago and the players were already playing for us, apart from Forssell who was as good as. Nothing to worry about yet. If we're still sitting here this time next month with no more signings it'll be time to worry IMO. |

Something to think about. How many times have we bought a player because SB wanted him. How many times have DS,DG come out and said we are buying so and so but its money would not be normally spending until Jan, or June etc. maybe the coffers have finally run out. and we can only spend what we manage to get in through outgoings. Out Gronkjaer Savage Blake Carter approx £6.8m In Forssell Nafti Pennant Approx £6.8m What a coincedence ;) |

So-o-o-o-....does that mean that there is ring-fenced money available man? What are we buying Bowyer/Bellamy/Butt with ? I know its similar everywhere else outside of SW1, but we don't want last minute purchases just to make up the numbers, and then have to buy them out or sell them off cheap after they've drained the wage bill and warmed the bench for months. And why sell Darren Carter man!! Its an odd close season all around, but I think, as has been suggested before, it may have as much to do with Steve's future as with actual dosh. Just a woryy of mine man, it'll go away as soon as Walter arrives. :D |

Obviously we cannot now buy Bellamy, if you listen to some cynics we never intended to  Bowyer was at the time being touted around at £500k + wages. Butt are we going to buy him, or maybe a loan wether that be until Jan or a whole season ? i have no idea. This close season is very different to normal as no one seems to be spending too much at all. |

I know we can't get them now Willie, but what were we going to get them with, originally? Did it mean Forsell & Nafti wer secondary choices ? Once the first choices had gone we used the dosh on the next on the list? And putting a bid in for Bellamy when he was negotiating with Pickfords was very strange man! Dead odd this year. |

crusto-stop beating around the bush. With your post you ARE calling into question your beloved board. AND RIGHTLY SO! All this garbage about signing AJ,Parker,Bellemey,Appiah,Yakubu. The Cardiff fan even tried to say we looked at taking Michael Owen on loan!!!!!!!!! You can forget any real quality coming in we will be left with freebies or has beens between now and the end of the window. You may even be prepared to admit that after all...................I was right! This from the SECOND RICHEST OWNERS IN FOOTBALL. Where is the cash going? |

What with being in the media yourself Mr Ross you should know that Pennant is actually £500,000 and rising to £3m on various add ons. Rising to the defence of the board again Tom? Funny how you try and say clubs are not spending much? Try having a look at Newcastle,Spurs,Boro,Chelsea,Liverpool. Then again I suppose you will somehow find an excuse to exclude them. |

In all fairness all the talk around signing Appiah and AJ was down to the fans specualting about new signings. Neither the board or manager said they would be making offers on those two. |

Simon Jordan? Ar5e h0!e. Can we really believe anything he says? When have our board ever leaked anything to the press? It hasn't been too long since people on here were moaning about how little our board lets out about signings before they're made. SB did say he would be interested but who wouldn't? He didn't say a concrete enquiry or an offer had been made and Jordan went very quiet very quickly. |

No. Leaking to the press would be DS coming out and saying we were tabling a bid for Owen and were in talks with his agent long before anything was settled. Admitting you tried to get him long after the event is neither here nor there really. |

I disagree with the header line I AM convinved we can seriously push for Europe and the domestic cups this season We signed Forssell for a snip (a risk regarding his fitness, yes but let's just see) and Pennant joined us permanetly at the end of last season (another risk of a different sort but let's hope the lad concentrates on what he does best) Plus we have added Nafti and Bernard and moved on Carter and Blake who both were NOT 1st team regulars and it looks likely Morrison could be the next departure but the phone hasn't been ringing off the hook has it? SB did all he could to sign Lee Bowyer who would have been a great asset to us but as we all know a few 'liberal' so called Blues fans put paid to that with their foolish actions I know Brucey is getting frustrated with the Pandiani situation......My only concerns are that we're prepared to go and shell out 2.8 million for Jason Euell (not a bad player BTW,TF was after him when he was boss) but are haggling over the fee for El Rifle....the same applied to Basinas from Panathanaikos (another excellent player) who wanted more cash than our valuation I'm sure the board will conduct business as they always do,professionally, sensibly and within the best long term interests of Birmingham City Football Club (and hopefully without the interference of a few 'do gooders' who stand on soapboxes and pose as Bluenoses)...and I'm happy they will continue to 'SELL' BCFC as an ambitious,go-ahead football club with the potential to become a top six side in England....they have the right to expect other clubs to do likewise and it's clear both Deportivo and Panathanaikos were being stubborn to say the least....the board will not be held to ransom over a player and that's their perogative as management Last year was a disappointment but we already have class players like Heskey,Upson and David Dunn and along with the very promising Pennant, all four could stake a claim for England at next year's World Cup And with Izzet back,Upson stating he is very happy with things right now and youngsters like Kuqi,Hall and Kilkenny perhaps rising to prominence.... why the doom and gloom?? I am looking forward to August 13th with great optimism.......don't forget the 'curse' is almost over (2006) KRO |

PartisanBCFC you are full of sh!te mate, are you the only blues fan in existence who doesn't know the real reason Bowyer didn't come, and wasn't going to come long before any stupid petition was started? Stop dreaming and take off your blue-tinted glasses, we will have to have a very very lucky season to be challenging for europe, we've got a chance at the carling cup, but to get into the top six will be too much for us unless we sign this "world-class" midfielder Sullivan is sending letters out about. Now you're not going to tell me Euell is world class are you? I don't agree with gnrcoma's constant sl@gging of the board but I have to admit, I agree with the propaganda machine part. They always come out with outrageous comments (world class players?!!! £10m on one player - which was Forsell and included his wages for the next 4 years!!) when it's season ticket sales time. Then they screw over the fans (loyal or roped in by the propaganda) by reducing tickets for the first two home games!!! Thanks a lot!! |

more fool you lot then who blindly believe anything issued as "fact" by any PLC. disregard grncoma ridiculous ravings, he's completely barking mad. the middle ground is where the truth lies, but i believe that ds believes what he says but cant bring it to fruition, so take it all with a healthy dose of salt. not hard is it? and as for disappointment with signings, i dont think pennant, forssell and nafti are too bad at all, and if they're joined by pandiani, bernard and a decent midfielder i think we have an outside chance at top 7 place. if we can keep everyone fit. as for slagging off partisan, he's one of the few on here with rational, reasoned arguments without too much speculation or emotion... i'm not disappointed, we've signed good players season after season and will continue to do so...whats to be disappointed about supporting the blues???? get off your high horses, get your tickets, get behind the team and club..end of rant... |

A reasoned poster, coming out with the Bowyer/petition rubbish again? Give me a break. I don't accept what the board say as fact, but I don't like the way that they twist the truth to sell season tickets and then discount the ticket prices for the 1st two games. I've really struggled to get the money together to pay for my season ticket this season after the latest price hike, at the expense of not going on holiday this year, so forgive me if I'm a bit annoyed that Sullivan has spouted a load of cr@p about not being outbid and signing world class players, then not delivered. I understand it's difficult to sign the next level quality of player, but once you state that we won't be outbid, then they won't offer enough money for Pandiani and try and get him on the cheap, it's a little hard to swallow, especially if we end up missing out on a player who's dying to come to us and has a proven goalscoring record. I haven't said I'm disappointed with signings so far, Forsell and Pennant are fantastic, young players and I'm delighted that we've signed them. I would in fact, be happy to start next season without signing anyone else, but not after all the letters they've sent out to me spinning lies to get me to renew a season ticket they had already posted out to me. |
